– Why do you want to participate in One Water Race?
I followed this race from it’s inception in 2022 and the mix of swimrun and team adventure racing intrigued me from the first. When Jarrod reached out I was really excited to take that step up in time length to unlock new experiences that I haven’t yet had the “pleasure” to experience. The Team aspect is a great motivator and I also love the archipelago from my visits for the Otillo race – a great excuse to come back!
– Have you taken a similar challenge before?
Not as long, no. But I have always been a “diesel train” as they say in France and I’ll certainly use the time available until August to set up a few overnighters in training.
– What are your strengths?
Strong mentally, a good team player and I tend to be pretty positive so I hope to be able to help keep the smiles on. I don’t mind cold water in general (surf and swim through the winter). I rarely get injured (almost never).
– What are your weaknesses?
Lack of experience over the longer (over 12 hours) races. I’ll need to be careful on the “small” details that could become crucial – blisters, rubbing that I don’t have experience of as yet – but the Team, tons of experience for me to draw from!
– What would be your biggest challenges in this race?
Confronting the unknown territory that is overnight racing – I’m cautiously optimistic that I’m not too bad usually on little sleep.
– Have you been to the Stockholm archipelago and what do you know/think about the terrain?
Yes, for the 2019 and 2023 Otillo races – I was so happy to come back in 2023 as I love the magical feel of the islands. You certainly have to be careful on the wet rocks and watch your ankles in the woods. But it’s so varied you are never bored.
– What are you most looking forward to, if you would participate in One Water Race?
I’m so excited about getting the chance to do the last type of racing experience that I have wanted to experience for a long time – multiple-day team racing. And also having Jarrod offer me this opportunity and knowing that after 2 previous attempts he and Kristen and Chris need that finish is galvanising.
