IMPORTANT UPDATE: CANCELED PARTICIPATION DUE TO ILLNESS

MESSAGE FROM TEAM 8 – SWE:

With sincere sadness Team 8 has come to the decision to withdraw from One Water Race 2024. Throughout the winter and spring we have been all set on improving our performance from 2023, to compete for the podium and finally reach Landsort in 2024. However, the last months there have been serious setbacks. Henrik is going through a serious family matter that requires his complete dedication and Pär is battling an importunate knee injury. It is clear that we will not be able to complete the extensive preparations  necessary to compete at the level expected from ourselves, our supporters and the race organization. On the contrary, summer 2024 will focus on healing and coming back even stronger in the future. We wish to thank the OWR organization, our sponsors and all our supporters for believing in us. Thank you! Finally, we wish all the remaining teams successful preparations and an amazing adventure in the archipelago. We will follow and support you all.

This Swedish team has a long experience in endurance racing and knows the Stockholm archipelago very well. Pär and Annika have a great track record in triathlon and swimrun and have done large sections of the course before. With Henrik’s navigation and multisport skills, and Joakim’s support skills learnt from military, they are a complete team to take on the adventure of one of the toughest races in the world.

– Why do you want participate in One Water Race?

We participated in OWR 2023 and had an awesome experience, but we did not reach the finish line. Partly because of a late injury that influenced our ability to perform during the race and partly because of the unique challenges of the race that we did not manage to overcome. Building on the experiences from 2023 and another year of dedicated training our ambition is to improve in order to compete with the top teams. We also believe that the One Water Race is a great way to inspire people to accomplish things that at first may seem impossible.

– What would be your biggest challenge as a team?

To maintain a high energy level and keep the momentum on the second night and third day.

– What are your goals if you would participate in One Water Race?

It is obvious from the 2023 race that even to finish it will be necessary to compete for the top spot. We know what we need to do to improve to the next level. We are a resilient team and with a good strategy, execution and teamwork we believe that we can be competitive, even into the second night and third day.
