The world’s toughest long-distance race spreads knowledge about environmentally adapted fuel
Press Release
One Water Race has partnered with the Swedish special fuel manufacturer Aspen to spread knowledge about alkylate gasoline and environmentally adapted fuel. For the third year in a row, the world’s toughest long-distance race, One Water Race, will be held in the Stockholm archipelago, where the world’s top long-distance athletes will cover 250 kilometers nonstop, from Arholma to Landsort. The purpose of the race is to draw attention to the urgent environmental threat to our world’s oceans – which absorb 30 percent of the planet’s carbon dioxide emissions. One Water Race will take place between August 22–24.
“We use the appeal of sports to spread knowledge about our marine environment, and together with Aspen, we can concretely demonstrate how alternative fuels and alkylate gasoline can reduce emissions within our organization while, with a partner of Aspen’s capacity, we can help spread knowledge both globally and locally,” says Thomas Ogander, founder of One Water Race.
A local competition format with global reach
One Water Race has quickly established itself as the world’s toughest endurance race, with a global reach spanning 190 countries over five continents. The race is an extreme competition format that attracts the world’s top long-distance athletes and puts Sweden, the Stockholm archipelago, and the critical water issue in focus both locally and globally.
“We live in an attention economy, and through a unique competition, with various media formats and the world’s longest live broadcast of 65 hours, we highlight the issue of our water. Globally and locally. Last year, several school classes in Australia followed the race live, just like when we used to gather to watch Stenmark in the 80s,” says Thomas Ogander.
The world’s toughest race for the world’s toughest challenge
One Water Race is a way to highlight the One Water Foundation – an independent foundation working to accelerate various collaborative projects between the business community and the public sector to reduce the threat to our water and marine environments. The collaborative projects “Stop Fueling the Sea” and “A Fossil-Free Archipelago” are currently underway, involving the Stockholm County Administrative Board, the Swedish Transport Agency, and the Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management, among others.
“Through our partnership with OWR, we can concretely make a difference and spread knowledge about the marine environment, a development and investment that is entirely in line with the global player that we are,” says Fredrik Claesson, Marketing Manager of Aspen Group.
