One Water Race as a Platform for a Global Message on Healthier Oceans
Press Release
The Stockholm County Administrative Board and One Water Race have entered into a partnership to globally spread the “Stop Fueling the Sea” informational campaign. One Water Race, the world’s toughest long-distance race, is being held for the third consecutive year in the Stockholm archipelago. The race features the world’s top endurance athletes covering 250 kilometers nonstop, from Arholma to Landsort, through running, swimming, and orienteering. The event will take place from August 20-22 and will be broadcast in over 190 countries, aiming to highlight the urgent environmental threat to our world’s oceans.
“This is a rare collaboration between the private sector, authorities, and civil society to drive concrete change. During One Water Race, all boats will run on alkylate gasoline, reducing harmful hydrocarbon emissions by up to 90%, demonstrating that a transition is possible,” says Patrik Cederlöf, Project Manager at the Stockholm County Administrative Board.
A Local Race with Global Reach
One Water Race has quickly established itself as the world’s toughest endurance race with a global TV audience in 190 countries, taking place shortly after the news of Seine’s unfit water quality during the Paris Olympics.
“We live in an attention economy, and through an extreme competition, with various media formats and the world’s longest live broadcast of 65 hours, we highlight the issue of our water and marine environment. This is an ever-relevant topic – especially with the unfit Olympic water in the Seine. The ‘Stop Fueling the Sea’ campaign and its English counterpart will be the sender on all materials, in all exposures, and all boats in the organization will run on alkylate gasoline from the special fuel manufacturer Aspen,” says Thomas Ogander, founder and initiator of One Water Race.
About the Campaign
In addition to TV exposure, the campaign includes a native collaboration with Schibsted and a campaign site, www.slutatankahavet.se, targeting small boat owners, fuel manufacturers, and marina fuel stations, where digital materials can be downloaded for spreading the campaign on social media.
