Q&A
– What other experiences do you have that demonstrates your competence and ability to complete One Water Race?
* 30 Expedition length Adventure Races over the last 15 years
* 15 years Australian Orienteering team member
* 2 Orienteering World Championships, multiple World Cup events
– Why do you want to participate in One Water Race?
The 2023 OWR showed I was still able to push through boundaries I didn’t think I could break, and achieve a team result that I am very proud of. With the added knowledge I have learned from the experience I feel we can push harder in 2024.
– Have you taken a similar challenge before?
Yes, OWR2022, OWR2023 and 30 expedition races around the world over the last 15 years.
– What are your strengths?
My strength is to help keep the team moving in the right direction with a lifetime of experience navigating in Orienteering and Adventure Races. I find the longer the race goes, the better I’m able to excel.
– What are your weaknesses?
My swimming is not my strength, but I’ve proven to be able to keep going and going. I’d like to continue to improve my weakest discipline prior to OWR2024
– What would be your biggest challenges in this race?
Maintaining composure throughout a 60hr event is very difficult. No race ever goes perfectly, particularly one with so many weather and terrain challenges, and of course the fact that we don’t know the course in advance. We need to be ready to adapt, and recover from mistakes and keep moving forward.
– Have you been to the Stockholm archipelago and what do you know/think about the terrain?
Yes, I raced OWR the last two years so I know one path from Arholma Nord to Landsort very well. I also lived in Stockholm for a few months competing in orienteering and know the typical forest terrain very well.
– What are you most looking forward to, if you would participate in One Water Race?
I’m looking forward to meeting my friends again, both staff and others in the swimrun community. Stockholm and the Archipelago is an amazing place to visit in August and I can’t wait to return.
