Q&A
– What other experiences do you have that demonstrates your competence and ability to complete One Water Race?
I’ve seen the OneWater landscape. It’s different than any other, but, in the end, it’s a race of endurance.
– Why do you want to participate in One Water Race?
I don’t think I reached my physical limit in the 2023 edition. I want to push until I touch the lighthouse or can’t physically go anymore.
– Have you taken a similar challenge before?
40 hours of the 2023 One Water Race.
– What are your strengths?
Endurance. I consistently train 2-4 hours/day 365 days a year. I have the ability to go for long periods of time and stay in the movement. I also feel that I have the mindset that is built for extreme challenges. Not just the racing, the mindset required to prepare for racing the unknown.
– What are your weaknesses?
Sleep deprivation. I don’t have a lot of race experience beyond 48 hours.
– What would be your biggest challenges in this race?
Navigation. I do not come from an orienteering background, so I will have to rely on my teammates.
– Have you been to the Stockholm archipelago and what do you know/think about the terrain?
It’s such a stark contrast of beauty and punishment. Especially at night, it’s pure darkness, only illuminated by the moon. It’s absolutely stunning. But at the same time, every island has its own challenge.
– What are you most looking forward to, if you would participate in One Water Race?
I’m looking forward to combining the strengths of each one of our teammates. We all come with different backgrounds and I think that has the potential to provide a lot of perspective to each challenge we face. With so much experience, our decision making will be one of our strengths.
