Q&A
– What other experiences do you have that demonstrates your competence and ability to complete One Water Race?
My focus over the last 6+ years has been getting better and better in adventure racing. I started with 24 h Adventure races back in 2019 and worked my way up to the a couple of 100+h races over the last years. I have been the lead navigator in most of these races and feel confident racing for 65h straight.
– Why do you want to participate in One Water Race?
Throughout my years in Adventure racing I was often in contact with swim/runs (swim/runs are often a stage or two in an AR) and swim/runs for me are an even purer form of getting from A to B. When finding out about the one water race I was immediately hooked, since you are even more exposed to the elements then in an adventure race.
– Have you taken a similar challenge before?
I have done multi day adventure races, mountain- and cave expedition but a swim/run this size is new.
– What are your strengths?
I would consider myself a fit person that knows how to plan, prepare and execute multi day team races. I have set up teams for 10+ adventure races (from 24h – 8 days) and none of my teams DNF yet. I feel confident in picking the right team members and pushing them to the right amount to reach our teams objectives, while having fun and overall enjoyable experience. I do a lot of cold water training and I am a strong navigator.
– What are your weaknesses?
Though I have done swim/run events, my focus over the last years was on running, biking and paddling. I am the weakest swimmer in the team (but still got over 200 days to compensate that).
– What would be your biggest challenges in this race?
Being wet and in a neoprene for 2+ days while operating on a high physical (and mental) level.
– Have you been to the Stockholm archipelago and what do you know/think about the terrain?
Often to Sweden, never to the archipelago. The archipelago is one of the main reasons for me personally why this race is so appealing.
– What are you most looking forward to, if you would participate in One Water Race?
Coming together with strong teammates in a race format no one of us has done before. Meeting equally crazy people and just having the experience swimming and running through an entire archipelago.
