Q&A
– Why do you want to participate in One Water Race?
It is a very challenging competition which tempts me. I have participated in many different endurance competitions that include navigation, but the role as support crew to my amazing team will be a new role for me. It will most likely end up being an exciting challenge, especially since it requires staying focused and awake when not racing physically myself.
– Have you taken a similar challenge before?
I have not competed for 24 hours before, so it will definitely be a challenge for both me and the team. I have however participated in BAMM in the north of Sweden twice, a two-day orienteering competition, so I know how important it is to stay focused on the map and avoid simple mistakes even when you are tired. Otherwise, things won’t turn out the way you planned..
– What are your strengths?
My ability to focus and my optimistic attitude. I have always been very interested in navigation and all kinds of maps since I was born and I almost grew up in a sailing boat on the west coast of Sweden so I have a lot of experience from the archipelago. In business I am a production manager so I am used to working together as a team and that is of course also very important in an endurance race like One Water Race.
– What are your weaknesses?
Of course, our lack of experience in this type of race. But we have competed in a lot of other challenging experiences so we hope, with good preparation, it will be enough.
– What would be your biggest challenges in this race?
To stay focused during the whole race, especially at night. It is very challenging to navigate on land when it is completely dark. We have a plan for that and will practice it a lot before the race.
– Have you been to the Stockholm archipelago and what do you know/think about the terrain?
I have been sailing every year since I was a kid and I have been moving around a lot in the archipelago. Not in Stockholm but on the West coast. I also created a challenge for me and my friends during the pandemic that we called Fyr till fyr swimrun. It was a swimrun adventure on the west coast where we during the weekends, through running and swimming travelled from the lighthouse of Nordkoster to the lighthouse of Vinga, just outside Gothenburg. My mission with the adventure was to create the best and also most beautiful course on our way from the northern parts of Bohuslän to the southern parts. I have to say it was a success!
Furthermore I have also participated as a contestant in ÖtillÖ World Championships 3 times.
– What are you most looking forward to, if you would participate in One Water Race?
We are humble by the challenge One Water Race, but at the same time convinced that our team is up to it and that we would prevail crossing the finish line at Landsort.
