One Water Race is launched as the world’s toughest endurance race and is for the absolute top elite in endurance sports. The payoff is, as known, The ultimate proof of human capacity. However, the purpose of the race is not only to take endurance sports to a new level, One Water Race also has the higher purpose to raise awareness about climate change and the health of our oceans, through this spectacular challenge.
The participating teams in the One Water Race must not only possess the physical strength, endurance and the grit required, but we also ask for their help to spread the message; that we all have the power of human capacity to make change.
As we speak, recordings for One Water Race Documentary are currently being made worldwide, where we follow the teams in their preparations for the race in August.
Our Swedish media crew with producer Hans Fahlén, recognized from Swedish TV and Adventure and Travel shows, together with our photographer André Prtic got the great pleasure to meet with the teams and will follow them all along until they reach the finish line.
The teams we have met so far in Australia, Uruguay and in three different states in the USA all have different starting points and conditions for training. How they will cope with the harsher climate in the Stockholm archipelago remains to be seen.
Hi Hans, what do you have to say about the teams you’ve met so far?
100% passionate and expectant before the challenge, One Water Race. Even if it’s the first time and is untried, they realize that it will be extremely tough and crazy hard… but they love it. For me who has never been close to what they will be exposed to, I can not help but be fascinated by their smile get them talking about the physical and mental challenge that One Water Race entails.
Can you tell/see some differences between the teams? Do they all have what it takes to complete this big challenge?
All the teams feel extremely close-knit and strong. Both physically and mentally… but are they be able to cope with the many and long swimming stages in the cold water…? Add to that, strong winds, high waves and at night carbon black… it can probably be one of the breaking points for many of the teams.
Do not mention names, but do you have a team you would bet your money on?
Yes, I have a team I’ll believe have big chances to win the first One Water Race and the reason is for their long experience and strong team spirit.
What was the most fun/interesting with meeting the teams?
Their passion and zest for life. Despite the high tempo during the recording, we were greeted by everyone with good hospitality and understanding of our tight time frame.
During the race, all teams will be documented by runner companions and escort boats, day and night, and it will be exciting to see which will be the biggest challenges during the race and how they are handled by the different teams. This will be broadcasted here during 23-25 Aug.
